Thailand

Southeast Asia

Thailand has the deepest K-pop penetration in Southeast Asia — aespa x G-DRAGON's 'WDA' has topped the Thai Spotify chart. Meanwhile, in rural Thailand and especially in the northeast Isaan region, Luk thung and Mor lam continue as actual everyday music. T-pop is also catching up fast in the late 2020s, with idol groups like PUPEECH, PUN, 4EVE and BUS building real audiences. The result is one of the region's clearer urban / rural musical splits.

Generational / regional / economic split

Younger urban listeners in Bangkok split between K-pop and T-pop. Rural Thailand, especially Isaan, and working-class audiences run on Mor lam and Luk thung — the music of weddings, temple fairs and provincial concerts. Older listeners hold the 1990s Thai pop catalog led by Bird Thongchai. Class and region map onto genre choice in Thailand as cleanly as anywhere in Southeast Asia.
