Morocco
MENA
Morocco's Spotify chart is almost entirely Moroccan hip-hop and trap. ElGrandeToto has held the #1 Moroccan Spotify spot for five consecutive years, with Stormy, Najm, Figoshin and Shaw filling out the rest of the top. Rai, the older Algerian-rooted popular tradition, survives more as melodic and sample material than as a chart genre in its own right. The language blend โ Darija Arabic mixed with French, sometimes Spanish or Italian โ has become a defining feature of the sound.

Generational / regional / economic split
Younger listeners are inside Moroccan rap and trap almost entirely, with the multilingual Darija / French code-switch part of the genre's identity. Older listeners and rural communities still hold space for Rai โ Cheb Khaled, Cheba Maria โ and for Andalusian classical music. Generational divides matter more than class here; Moroccan rap has crossed enough into the middle-class mainstream that it's not coded as poor-kid music the way some neighboring countries' rap scenes still are. Cross-border streaming with the French Maghrebi diaspora amplifies the genre's reach.
