Bangladesh is one of Spotify's newest growth markets โ the platform launched there in 2022 โ and the chart is built on three pillars: Bangla pop (Pritom Hasan, Tahsan Khan), Bangla rock (Artcell, Chirkutt) and a fast-rising Bangla hip-hop scene fronted by Tabib Mahmud and Shafayet. Underneath the pop chart, Baul music โ the mystic, single-singer storytelling tradition associated with Lalon Shah โ and Lalon Geeti remain treated as national cultural treasures. Cross-border listening with West Bengal in India keeps Bengali-language pop circulating freely between the two countries.

Generational / regional / economic split
Younger listeners barely distinguish between Dhaka pop and Kolkata pop, and the same artists trend on both sides of the border. In rural districts Baul music is still expected at weddings and religious gatherings โ it's not a museum piece but working music. Older urban listeners stay close to Rabindra Sangeet, the Tagore-song repertoire that has anchored Bengali middle-class taste for a century. The hip-hop wave skews male and urban and has spread mostly through YouTube and TikTok rather than radio.
